What is Tajweed?

Tajweed (تجوید) literally means "to make better" or "to improve." In the context of the Quran, Tajweed refers to the set of rules that govern the correct pronunciation of every letter and word during Quran recitation. Allah (SWT) commands us to recite the Quran in a measured, proper way (Tarteel) in Surah Al-Muzzammil (73:4).

Learning Tajweed ensures that the meaning of Quranic words is not changed by mispronunciation. For example, the difference between ق (Qaaf) and ك (Kaaf) completely changes the meaning — and only Tajweed training teaches you to tell them apart correctly.

Topics Covered in Our Tajweed Course

Tajweed Course — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to read Arabic before joining Tajweed classes?+

Yes, students should be able to read basic Arabic before starting Tajweed. If you cannot read Arabic yet, we recommend starting with our Noorani Qaida course first. After completing Qaida, you will be ready for Tajweed training.

How long does it take to learn all Tajweed rules?+

Most students complete the full Tajweed course in 6 to 12 months depending on their starting level and frequency of classes. Students with a stronger foundation progress faster. We never rush — all rules must be mastered before moving on.

Can I improve my Tajweed even if I have been reading Quran for years?+

Absolutely. Many of our adult students have been reading Quran for years but have never had formal Tajweed instruction. Our teachers conduct a pronunciation assessment in the first class and then create a personalized correction plan.

Will I be able to lead Salah after completing Tajweed?+

Yes. After completing our Tajweed course, students are able to recite the Quran with confidence and correct pronunciation suitable for leading Salah, Tarawih, or any other Islamic gathering. Many of our students have become Imams after completing the course.
